If you’ve been following along with us, you know we’re in the process of a significant renovation. We warmly refer to it as the “Reno Room”. A.K.A. Anything that lies beyond that door we keep closed! If you’re new here, said renovation includes one-quarter of our house! Here is the latest renovation update!
Long story a bit shorter…
We had a water issue in our master bedroom. What started as a simple flooring removal, fix the issue, and install new flooring; quickly spiraled into a larger issue: drywall/insulation/ceiling teardown, then what the heck, why not just tear down the walls and start the whole area over again? 😊
That’s just the way we roll!

On to the update …
The kids have been sharing a bedroom. We took over our son’s bedroom and the dining room became our storage space. The hope was to have everyone back into their own bedrooms by Christmas. Ha!
In attempt to make good on our promise, we re-arranged our storage space, dismantled the dining table, and split the “storage” between the kid’s room. We moved our son back into his own bedroom just in time for Christmas and set up our bed in the dining room area. Welcome studio apartment! Dressers and rolling clothes racks are strewn throughout the house, but this will work for now.
Layout:
After working in the reno room a bit, framing walls, etc, it turns out the “final” layout was just another draft! Here is the newest rendition.
Bedroom:
In the bedroom, we’ve decided to extend the closet area down the entire wall and eliminate the built-ins, at least for now. The closet will add a lot of storage capacity beyond just clothing – extra blankets, luggage, totes, etc.
Bathroom:
In the bathroom, the general layout remains the same, but to work around the existing plumbing stack, we framed the wall out a bit further into the laundry room. To disguise the stack, we will frame around it and are thinking of creating an in-wall cabinet (hidden?) to house extra toilet paper. Let me know if you have any good ideas!
Mudroom:
I found a beautiful half-lite door for the mud room WITH a window that opens, AND within budget!! 🥰
Laundry Room:
In the laundry room, to make better use of the slightly smaller space, we nixed the dog wash (tears) and plumbed the washer/dryer to go in that corner. We thought about putting the laundry sink under the window and running the cabinets in an “L” shape from there down the wall adjacent to the bathroom. However, after moving the bathroom wall, it made more sense to put the sink and cabinets galley style down that wall instead.
Flooring:
For floorings, we plan to extend the existing LVP flooring that we have in the rest of the house, into the mudroom and laundry room. We have settled on carpeting for the master bedroom. Still in search of the perfect tile flooring for the bathroom.
Speaking of the bathroom, we finally ordered a vanity! It is on it’s way to our house so plumbing can be finalized.
It’s been ebbs and flows. At most times it feels like a snail’s pace, but we are making gradual progress. Slow and steady wins the race 😊
