Ugh! (I learned that word from our 12 year old 😂) Bathroom vanities…need I say more? I have looked at probably 1,000 vanities, if not more! Trying to stay within our budget, but once again, we have a not-so-common size to work with. I’m also looking for a specific look and certain function.
Who would think there are so many types of vanities to choose from? Wood or particle board? Stained or painted? Cabinet style or furniture style? Natural, sage, white, grey, navy? Black, gold, nickel, brass hardware? Left, right, center sink? Doors, drawers, open shelves?
Budget you say?
Well, I guess..if you insist…just kidding! Again, this renovation was not exactly planned, so were trying to do it right and not skimp, but also trying to stay within a budget.
So…What do you want? Choosing the right material:
I decided I definitely wanted a toe kick, no open shelves, matte black hardware, and would prefer a center sink. However, I was torn between colors. Do we go with:
- stained wood (a perfect medium, not too yellow, red, dark or light)
- sage (but a perfect grey green, not too light/pastel/mint, and not too dark/evergreen/emerald)
- white (but not too stark, more of an antique white)
- or grey (but not too light or dark, more of a perfect medium)
And now you see why I’ve looked at thousands of vanities! Man! I am so picky!
But…What about function? Optimizing storage space:
Now that we’ve gotten color narrowed down, it also had to have the perfect function, and no wasted space. As I’ve mentioned, storage is at a premium in our home, so I like to use it wisely. This means:
- no silly drawers that were too shallow or double-deep
- no open shelves underneath
- no fake panels
- shelf inside the doors as opposed to just open space
Easy, right?
Sounds pretty cut and dry, ha ha! Unfortunately, just like our “perfect floorplan”, the “perfect vanity” doesn’t seem to exist meeting all of our criteria. Time to compromise. We’ll let you know what we come up with!
